About Us
Project Vidya Shakti was envisioned by a consortium that consists of IIT Madras, IITM Pravartak, IFE Academy and Open Mentor Trust. Our goal is to provide quality education to everyone, and in turn improve the gross enrolment ratio (GER) to colleges. The project began in Oct 2021, in five villages in Tamil Nadu and has since expanded to 7200+ rural interaction centres (RICs) across India and Sri Lanka.
Vidya Shakti program provides live online classes in Science, Maths and English to rural students of grades 5th to 12th. Technology intervention using simulation and gamification tools, teaching in mother tongue and activity-based content are the core of Vidya Shakti pedagogy. The project also involves STEM tutors who visit schools in the morning and afternoon, carrying three to four VR (virtual reality) devices for each session. Vidya Shakti classes are not replacement to regular classes, rather it acts as additional support to the students.
